Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi Gallery preserves one of the most important paintings in the world. Visiting the museum you can also see Greek and Roman sculptures, drawings and engravings. The rooms dedicated to painting are chronologically arranged and, thanks to the structure of the museum, it is easy to locate them without getting lost. The most famous area of the exhibition space is dedicated to the Renaissance, with masterpieces by masters such as Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffaello or Tiziano. The construction of the building began in 1560, at the request of Cosimo I dei Medici, with the intention of replacing Palazzo Vecchio as a residence. In 1581 the construction work was completed and the building received the countless works of art gathered by the Medici family during several decades. In June 2013, new halls dedicated to foreign schools were inaugurated, with works that previously the museum could not display, due to lack of space. Among the numerous works of art in the Uffizi collection, the following are some of the most famous: Birth of Venus (Botticelli, 1482-1485) Adoration of the Magi (Leonardo, 1481-1482) Annunciation (Leonardo, 1472-1475) Madonna del cardellino (Raffaello, 1506) Venus of Urbino (Tiziano, 1538)

Florence is alive and its soul is not all in paintings and palaces. It speaks with each one of us in a language as simple and understandable as the mother tongue.
